Information About Flying

Here are some small faq's about flying which I thought would be useful to add here.

How long before I get my Pilots licence?

The Australian Aviation Authority require a student pilot to have a minimum of 40 hours flying time of which 15 hours must be solo time.

Can I become a Pilot if I wear glasses?

Yes lots of pilots I know wear glasses. However there are certain types of visual impairment which may precluded a person from obtaining a flying licence. Contact your local Flying Authorithy for more advice.

How tough is the medical?

Probably no worse than the medical for most jobs. You can expect to have an ECG test, a chest x-ray, and a medical examination by your own Doctor.

How long before I can fly an aircraft on my own?

You will probably get your first solo flight when you have in or around 10 hours flying experience.

What about the technical side of flying e.g. exams, books etc?

You can hold ground courses during the winter months. You don't need to be a brain box to fly, the technical side of flying can seem daunting at first, but when it is broken down into sections it is fairly straight forward.
